Mount Kilimanjaro

Conquer the Roof of Africa with our expert mountain guides. Multiple routes, all levels — your summit is achievable.

Climb the World's Tallest Free-Standing Mountain

Mount Kilimanjaro, at 5,895 metres above sea level, is the highest mountain in Africa and the world's tallest free-standing mountain. Located in northern Tanzania, it rises dramatically from the surrounding savanna and is visible for hundreds of kilometres on a clear day.

Unlike most high-altitude peaks, Kilimanjaro does not require technical climbing skills or mountaineering experience. With our expert team, proper preparation, and the right route, it is achievable by any reasonably fit person committed to the challenge.

We have guided thousands of climbers to Uhuru Peak. Our 90%+ summit success rate — among the highest in the industry — is testament to our guides' experience, our careful acclimatisation schedules, and our attention to every climber's safety and wellbeing.

Choose Your Route to the Summit

Each route offers a unique experience in terms of scenery, duration, and difficulty. We'll help you choose the best fit for your fitness level and goals.

Machame Route
Challenging
7–8 Days
Success: 90%+

The most popular route on Kilimanjaro, nicknamed the "Whiskey Route." It offers stunning and varied scenery through multiple vegetation zones. The climb-high-sleep-low profile gives excellent acclimatisation. Highly recommended for most climbers.

Lemosho Route
Moderate
8–9 Days
Success: 90%+

The most scenic and least crowded of the southern approaches, offering breathtaking views of the Shira Plateau. The longer duration provides superior acclimatisation, making it the route with the highest success rates. Ideal for those wanting a premium experience.

Marangu Route
Moderate / Easier
5–6 Days
Success: 65%

Known as the "Coca-Cola Route," this is the only route offering hut accommodation — A-frame bunkhouses with mattresses and dining facilities. It's the shortest but has a lower summit success rate due to less acclimatisation time. Good for trekkers on tight schedules.

Rongai Route
Moderate
7 Days
Success: 85%

The only route that approaches from the north (Kenyan side), giving it a unique wilderness feel with fewer trekkers. Passing through the remote northern slopes, it offers a true Kilimanjaro adventure away from the crowds. Wildlife sightings are common on the lower slopes.

Umbwe Route
Very Difficult
6–7 Days
For Experienced

The shortest and most direct route, but also the most demanding. The steep, jungle-clad ridge offers a true mountaineering challenge. Recommended only for very fit, experienced trekkers comfortable with steep terrain. Not advised for first-time high-altitude climbers.

Northern Circuit
Easiest / Most Scenic
9–10 Days
Success: 95%

The longest route on the mountain, circumnavigating almost the entire northern arc of Kilimanjaro. The exceptional acclimatisation schedule yields the highest summit success rates on the mountain. For those wanting the best possible chance of reaching Uhuru Peak in comfort and style.

Tips for a Successful Summit

Train for 3–6 Months Before

Focus on cardiovascular fitness: hiking, running, stair-climbing. Day hikes with a loaded pack are ideal preparation.

Acclimatise Before Climbing

Spend 1–2 nights in Arusha (1,400m) before your climb. Avoid flying direct from sea level to the mountain gate.

Dress in Layers

Kilimanjaro's weather changes dramatically. You'll pass through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert and the arctic summit zone. Quality layering is essential.

Pole Pole — Slowly, Slowly

The Swahili mantra of the mountain. Slow, steady pacing is the single most important factor in reaching the summit. Never rush on Kilimanjaro.

✦ What's Not Included

International flights, travel insurance (mandatory), personal climbing gear (boots, hiking poles, warm layers), tips for guides & porters, visa fees, and any items of a personal nature. We strongly recommend high-quality waterproof boots, thermal layers and a sleeping bag rated to -15°C. We offer gear rental if needed. Consult your doctor about altitude medication (Diamox) before your climb.
